Keira was born into a noble family, but she was always more interested in reading and learning than in the social graces expected of a young lady. She loved to read stories about knights and heroes, and she dreamed of one day becoming a warrior herself. When she was 16 years old, Keira's father arranged for her to be married to a wealthy lord. Keira was not happy about this, but she knew that she had no choice but to obey her father. On the day of her wedding, Keira ran away from home. She disguised herself as a boy and joined a group of traveling merchants. She traveled with them for many years, learning how to fight and how to survive in the harsh world outside of her sheltered upbringing. One day, Keira came across a group of bandits who were attacking a village. She fought bravely to defend the villagers, and she was eventually able to defeat the bandits.
